Ariel is a fictional character and the central figure in Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated film titled The Little Mermaid (1989). She can also be seen in the film’s prequel television series (1992—1994), the direct-to-video sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning (2008). Jodi Benson voices Ariel in all official animated portrayals and associated merchandise. She holds the fourth position in the Disney Princess lineup and is the first princess who is not human, as well as the sole princess who experiences motherhood with her own child.
